Narendra Modi congratulates women's Hockey team for winning Asia Cup

New Delhi, Nov 5 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Indian Women's hockey team on winning Asia Cup 2017.

"Congratulations to our hockey team on winning the Women's Asia Cup 2017. India is delighted by their stellar performance," the Prime Minister said.

Indian women's team defeated China 5-4 in a sudden death situation to life the Asia Cup Hockey title on Sunday.

The match had ended 1-1 in the regular time period.

India qualified for next year's Hockey World Cup with this victory.

India had defeated China 4-1 in the pool stage of the tournament.

India's Navjot Kaur scored the first goal in the 25th minute of the game.

China leveled the scoreline 1-1 in the 47th minute of the game.

Hockey India tweeted: "After a thrilling shootout India clinch GOLD at the 9th Women's #AsiaCup2017 on 5th Nov. #INDvCHN."
