Narendra Modi accepts marital status in poll affidavit

| | Apr 10, 2014, at 06:12 pm
New Delhi, Apr 10 (IBNS) Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who on Wednesday filed his nomination papers from Vadodara constituency for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, has accepted that he is married.

He has mentioned "Jashodaben" in the column for spouse, according to reports.

Modi's marital status has been a subject of speculation and mystery all along since he always projected himself as a single person.

Congress senior leader Digvijaya Singh was quick to react on Twitter on Modi's marital status.

"Modi accepts his Marital Status. Can Women of this Country trust a Man who stalks a woman, deprives his wife of her right? Vote against Modi," he tweeted.

According to media reports, Modi's wife Jashodaben, 62, is a retired school teacher and the two had lived together for three years only after their marriage.

In an interview to Indian Express, Jashodaben had said: "We have never been in touch and we parted on good terms as there were never any fights between us. I will not make up things that are not true. In three years, we may have been together for all of three months. There has been no communication from his end to this day."

She said she likes to track news of Modi in media.
