Narada sting: Calcutta High Court sets up committee to collect footage
Kolkata, Apr 11 (IBNS): A division bench of Calcutta High Court, led by Chief Justice Manjulla Chellur, on Monday formed a three-member panel to collect the unedited footage of Narada News's sting operation.
The three-man committee, comprising of an IG ranked officer of West Bengal police, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official and a court-appointed officer, will collect the raw video tape from Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel in Delhi and submit it before the High Court.
The division bench said that the entire procedure, relating to footage collection and submission, and the names of the committee members will be kept confidential.
After receiving the video tape, the court will decide its safe-custody.
Narada News chief Mathew Samuel told the media, "I welcome the direction of Calcutta High Court. This decision assures me. I am ready to cooperate with this committee and will hand over the raw footage of the sting operation to the panel."
Since March 14, news portal- Narada News- released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were exposed while allegedly taking bribes.
Three Public Interest Litigations (PIL), demanding the CBI and ED joint probe into the sting operation incident, were filed before the Calcutta High Court earlier. The next hearing date in this case has been set on Apr 15.
Meanwhile, the TMC has already announced to hold an internal probe into the matter.
