Nalini: Rajiv Gandhi killer granted 24-hour parole by Madras HC

| | Mar 08, 2016, at 05:34 pm
Chennai, Mar 8 (IBNS) Nalini Sriharan, one among the five behind India's then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination hatched by the LTTE for his policy on Sri Lanka, was granted a 24-hour parole by the Madras High Court on Tuesday.
Nalini's parole stars from 4 p.m today and will end at the same time on Wednesday.

According to reports, she had requested for a 3-day parole in order to attend her father's last rites but due to opposition from several others, the court decided upon a singular day.

Congress and the AIADMK recently had a heated exchange in Parliament after the Tamil Nadu government led by the latter wrote to the Centre over its decision to release the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a suicide bombing mission in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, on 21 May 1991. At least 14 others were also killed in the blast carried out by Thenmozhi Rajaratnam, also known as Dhanu, a human bomb.
