New Delhi, July 15 (IBNS): A Bharatiya Janata Party leader has triggered a controversy as he said that Muslim men who have many wives and father several children show "animalistic tendency".

"In Muslim religion, you all know that people keep 50 wives and give birth to 1,050 children. This is not a tradition. It is an animalistic tendency," BJP leader Surendra Singh was quoted as saying by ANI news agency.

Singh is a state lawmaker from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia seat.

The BJP lawmaker further said having two to four children is considered as normal in the society.
