Muslim World League chief Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and condemned the terror attack on tourists in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir that led to the deaths of 28 people, including foreigners, on Tuesday.

"He strongly condemned the ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and offered deepest condolences on the innocent lives lost," read a statement issued by the Indian Prime Minister's Office.

Unacceptable, Says UN Chief

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the armed attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, responding to inquiries, emphasised the Secretary-General's condemnation of the attack.

Guterres extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, said Mr. Dujarric, underscoring “that attacks against civilians are unacceptable under any circumstances.”

Pahalgam Terror Attack

In one of the worst terror strikes that targeted tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam amid the ongoing visit of US Vice-President JD Vance to India, gunmen killed at least 27 people and wounded many others after identifying them as non-Muslims on Tuesday, triggering a nationwide outrage and condemnation from all quarters, according to media reports.

Gunshots were heard in the upper meadows of Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley around 2:30 PM, which is accessible only on foot or on horseback.

The terrorists were apparently in camouflage, and it is believed to be a targeted attack.

The attackers reportedly asked about the religious identities of the victims before opening fire on them.

The terrorists reportedly opened fire on the tourists when they were horse riding in the area.

Pahalgam attracts a large number of tourists every year.

Pulwama Attack

The terror attack in Pahalgam is one of the worst incidents recorded in the Valley, which was witnessing a spike in tourists in recent months, since the killing of 40 Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)  personnel in 2019.
