Mumbai building collapse will be probed: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis

Mumbai, Aug 31 (IBNS): Hours after the building collapse in the congested Bhendi Bazaar area of south Mumbai on Thursday morning claiming several lives, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the whole incident will be probed, media reports said.

"The whole incident will be probed and action will be taken against any official if found to be negligent" Fadnavis said while interacting with the media.

According to the latest report, 16 people died out of 30 who were evacuated from the debris of the collapsed residential building.

The collapsed building was reportedly 125 years old.

Fadnavis, who was present at the site where the building collapsed, said the government has issued enough notices for the demolition and evacuation of the properties.

The final notice was given to the owner of the resident in May, the chief minister added.

The CM announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation for families of dead victims. He said that the government will aid the injured people with monetary assistance.

The tragedy occurred at around 8.30 a.m..

90 NDRF personnel along with fire fighters have joined the rescue work at the site.

The rescue operation is still underway.
