Jabalpur, Jan 22 (IBNS): Days after the murders of two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in the state, a security guard for the civic body in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur has been allegedly beaten up by the supporters of local Congress leader Priyawat Singh, media reports said.

Harish Patel, the victim, was taken to hospital by his co-workers.

Witnesses had alleged that the attackers were the supporters of Singh, whose party came to power in Madhya Pradesh in the last month of 2018.

Following the incident, the civic staff lodged a complaint at the Jabalpur police station and demanded an immediate action with the workers threatening to go on a strike.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Rakesh Singh has been quoted by NDTV as saying, "While we were protesting against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, some Congress workers beat up an ex-serviceman working as a security guard."

On Sunday,  Madhya Pradesh BJP leader Manoj Thackeray was found dead in an open field in Barwani.

He is the second BJP leader to get murdered in less than a week.

Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is from the BJP, has blamed the Congress government for the murder.

He alleged that the "death of BJP leaders one after another a cruel joke."

"One after the other, the killing of BJP leaders is a serious matter. The state government is not taking it seriously and making a cruel joke of it. Popular BJP leader Manoj Thackeray was killed in broad daylight in the state home minister's backyard," Chouhan wrote in a tweet.

On Thursday last week, BJP leader Prahlad Bandhwar was shot in public.
