More than 36 per cent polling in Bihar till noon

Patna, Oct 16 (IBNS) More than 36 per cent voters have exercised their franchise till noon in 32 Bihar constituencies where polling for the second phase is going on.

According to Election Commission reports, Gaya has recorded the highest turnout at 42.97 per cent while the polling percentage in Jehanabad is the lowest at 33.83 per cent so far.

A middle aged voter and A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Harendra Singh Gurjar,died of heart attack respectively in Rafiganj and Imamganj constituencies.

A cane bomb was found by  security personnel near a polling station in Balar village of Kasma police station area area under  Rafiganj Assembly constituency, creating a stir among voters.

Among the constituencies where polling is going on are six Maoist-dominated districts- Kaimur, Rohtas, Arwal, Jehanabad, Aurangabad and Gaya.

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Harendra Singh Gurjar,died of heart attack while he was manning a polling station at Baseta village of Imamganj Assembly constituency of Gaya district, CRPF Commandant Birendra.

In this phase, around 86 lakh voters will decide the fates of 456 candidates.

Amid tight security, voting began at 7 am in 32 constituencies spread across six Naxal-hit districts of the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged voters to cast their votes  as he tweeted: "In the second phase of polling for the Bihar Assembly polls, I am urging voters to cast their votes."

Around 57 percent voters exercised their franchise in the first phase of polling for the Bihar Assembly polls on Monday.

Polling remained peaceful in the state which will witness  five-phased polling to elect a new assembly.

The battle for Bihar is being fought mainly between the the BJP-led NDA and the 'grand alliance' of the ruling Janata Dal(U), Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress.
