Modi distributes assistive devices, aids to more than 11000 Divyangjans in Samajik Adhikarita camp in Gujarat

New Delhi, Sept 17 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed Aids and Assistive Devices to more than 11000 Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjans) at Samajik Adikarita Shivir organized by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD),Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in District- Navsari, Gujarat on Saturday.

A mini-film based on Divyangjan, for motivation of people, was also screened. A Book named ‘Challenge the Challenge’ containing details of various noteworthy Divyangjans was also released.

The children who have been able to speak and hear because of cochlear implant surgery specially greeted the Prime Minister on his birthday.

The Governor of Gujarat O P Kohli, Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot, Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athwale, Krishna Pal Gurjar,  Vijay Sampla, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Women and Child Development of Gujarat Atmaram Parmar, Protocol Minister of Gujarat Pradip Singh Jadeja, Member of Parliament CR Patil, Prabhubhai Valsava, Darshnaben Jardosh,K C Patel and many dignitaries also attended the programme.

During the Camp, 3 Guinness World Records were created jointly by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) and ALIMCO.

First record got broken on Sept 16 with Highest number of oil lamps lit simaltaneously at single location.

Whereas two other world record ‘Most people fitted with Hearing Aid in 8 hours – Single location (600 Hearing Aid) and ‘Biggest Wheelchair Logo / Image with the help of 1000 Wheelchairs got announced which make the event historical.

While addressing the large gathering during the programme, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that by creating Three (3) Guiness World Records, Navsari has carved it’s name in golden letters.

He further added that if the society is sensitive, the problems could be resolved easily.

Accessible India Campaign is also part of a chain which is making India accessible.

ISLRTC established by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities will lead to develop a common sign language. He appraised Indian Players won in Para-Olympic games and congratulated them.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani said that with such camp held under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Divyangjans will be able to do their daily work with ease. To make the vision of the Prime Minister – ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’, a reality infrastructure of India is being changed under Accessible India Campaign.

The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot said that today’s ADIP camp is the biggest of it’s type in which more than 11 thousand Divyangjans have received Aids and Assistive Devices. He also gave details regarding Cochlear Implant surgery and establishment of Braille Press being established by the Department. Showing his pleasure over the victory of Indian Players in Para-Olympic Games, he said that National Sports Centres for Persons with Disabilities will be established.

In the 159th Mega ADIP Camp, which is so far the biggest, 11330 Divyangjan beneficiaries have been benefitted. The camp which is held under the ADIP Scheme of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is in force since 1981. This has been revised and further adopted from April, 01, 2014.

The main objective of the scheme is to provide latest and modern aids manufactured by various agencies, such as National Institutes, Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India [ALIMCO], District Disability Rehabilitation Centres, State Handicapped Development Corporations, other local bodies and NGOs. These aids are being given to the Divyangjans to promote their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation.

Besides, High-end-devices aimed atimparting education, training and information technology awareness were also distributed.

During this period, more than 100 beneficiaries were given certificates of training and loans by NHFDC. More than 100 beneficiaries were availed insurance policies under 'Niramaya' and other schemes of the National Trust.

20 Laptops were availed by NIMH located at Secunderabad. Below- mentioned aids and assistive devices were distributed by ALIMCO and other National Institutes:

50 Motorized Tricycles, 931 Tricycle, 1388 Wheelchairs, 1442 Crutches, 960 Walking Stick, 407 Braille Cane, 2597 TLM Kit, 64 Cerebral Palsy chair, 80 Braille Slate, 65 Braille Kit, 197 Rolletor (Adult and Child), 14ADL Kit Leprosy, 870 Samrtphone, 443 Daisy Player for Visual Impaired people, 3568 Hearing Aid – BTE Digital Programme, 788 Low Vision Device.
