Varanasi, Dec 12 (IBNS) Varanasi saw a spectacular evening with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe witnessing the Ganga Aarti and performing 'puja' (worshipping Ganges river) on Saturday.

The PMs of both the Asian nations performed Ganga puja at the Dashashwamedh Ghat here.

"Older than history, older than tradition: PM @narendramodi & PM @AbeShinzo perform Ganga puja at Dashashwamedh Ghat," MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

"Celebrating an eternal friendship in an eternal city, the 2 PM’s witness the Ganga aarti," he said.

"Harnessing history for a visionary future: The PMs take forward the Kyoto-Varanasi Partnership," he said.

PMO India tweeted a picture showing both the PMs discussing different issues on the river Ganges.

"Kyoto last year, Kashi this year...cultural bonds between India and Japan during PM @AbeShinzo's visit," PMO India tweeted.
