Srinagar/UNI:  Mobile internet service of all Cellular companies has been restored in border district of Kargil in Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh from mid-night Thursday after remaining suspended since August 5, when all communication network was snapped in Jammu and Kashmir as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours following scrapping of Article 370 and 35 A, besides dividing the state into two Union Territories (UTs) by the Centre.

However, people of Kashmir were not so lucky as not only mobile internet, but broadband and other fixed line internet services remained suspended since then. Winter capital of Jammu too has no mobile internet though broadband is working.

Mobile internet service has been restored from mid-night last, much to the delight of local people, particularly students and journalists. A delegation of journalists from Kargil had called on Lt Governor of UT Ladakh R K Mathur at Leh yesterday raised several issues, including restoration of mobile internet.

People welcomed the restoration of mobile internet in the border district of Kargil, which hit the headlines in 1999 when Pak intruders occupied all heights at Line of Control (LoC) . It later took several months to Indian troops to push back or kill the intruders.

All communication net work, including landlines and mobile phone, was suspended in the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh region on August 5. However, after about two weeks landlines and mobile network besides broadband were restored in Jammu. Mobile internet was restored in Jammu before again snapping it after about 10 hours.

Mobile internet besides broadband and other communication network was restored in Leh after few days of suspension from August 5. However, only landslides and mobile phones were restored in Kargil district.
