Bengaluru, Nov 11 (IBNS): Ballari's mining baron and former BJP minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, who appeared for interrogation at the crime branch office of the Bengaluru police on Saturday evening in connection with an alleged bribery case, has been arrested, media reports said on Sunday.

"We have taken the decision to arrest him on the basis of credible evidence and witnesses statements. We will produce him before the magistrate. We are going to recover the money & give it to the investors," senior police officer of Bengaluru, Alok Kumar, told reporters.

The crime branch had issued a notice to Reddy asking him to appear before it on Sunday.

After missing for three days, Reddy finally appeared for interrogation at the crime branch office of the Bengaluru police on Saturday evening

The officials earlier conducted searches at his Ballari home on Friday.

In a video message on Saturday, Reddy rubbished media reports that claimed he was on run.

"Now that the notice has been issued by the police, I have decided to appear before the Central Crime Branch today itself though the notice says I should appear on Sunday," Reddy said in the video.

Reddy said he made this video to let people know the truth. He said he had faith in the police that they would not succumb to any political pressure.

According to police, Janardhan Reddy, who was a minister in the BJP government headed by BS Yeddyurappa, is wanted by the Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru Police in connection with a Rs. 18 crore bribery case.

Ambident Group owner has alleged that during his term as minister, Janardhan Reddy had demanded Rs. 18 crore from him to bail him out of a corruption case.

The money was reportedly paid to a close aide.
