Militant killed in J&K

Srinagar, Oct 3 (IBNS) One militant, who was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) organization, was killed in an encounter with the police and the security forces at Batpora Charsu area n Jammu and Kashmir's Awantipora town on Thursday.

Acting on a specific information regarding the presence of militants at Batpora Charsu, the police along with the Army 50/42 RR and CRPF launched a search operation in the area last evening.

The militants opened fire on the search party triggering an encounter.

The cordon was strengthened and the area was sealed during the night. In the morning the encounter resumed in which one militant was killed.

The slain militant was later identified as Showkat Ahmad Qasba of HM outfit.

An Insas rifle has been recovered from the encounter site. Search is still going on in the area.
