Guwahati, Aug 3 (IBNS)  : At a time when the process for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) goes on in Assam to detect illegal migrants and the country witnesses a political row over the deletion of more than four  million names, whose bona fide as Indian citizens has been put into a question, a report has come that members of 39 families of suspected foreigners have been included in the complete NRC draft alone from Morigaon district.

Morigaon district Deputy Commissioner Hemen Das said the names of the members of those  39 families have figured in the complete NRC draft.

“The members of these  39 families, who have either been declared foreigners or whose cases are still pending in the Foreigners Tribunal, are in the list. We have detected them during the NRC verification process,” Das said.

“We have taken necessary action so that these names are not included in the final NRC,” he said.

The complete draft NRC was published on July 30 by including 2.89 crore persons out of 3.29 crore applicants.
