Kolkata, Jan 5 (IBNS) Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Postal Circle, Arundhaty Ghosh launched the delivery of business and e-commerce parcels through mechanized delivery system to meet the needs of customers in the growing e-commerce segment here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, she said, keeping pace with changing times and aspiration of the customers, India Post has switched to the latest communication technology to cater to needs of its customers.

This service will be operational on all days including Sundays and holidays, she added.

In Mechanized Delivery system, the respective sorting offices will route the mails to few selected hubs instead of all the post offices of the entire city. Several post offices are clubbed in one hub owing to geographical connectivity.

Mail carrying vehicles will originate from these hubs and the postal mails would be delivered to the addressees belonging to the post offices connected to the particular hub.

In the first phase of the project, 11 post offices have been identified for implementation of mechanized delivery system and these post offices will be delivery hubs.

These 11 delivery hubs will cover delivery jurisdiction of 78 post offices of Kolkata. After processing of the parcels at these 11 hubs, parcels will be delivered at the door-steps of the customers residing in the area under these 78 post offices.

The facility of Mechanized Delivery will be available primarily to customers of Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, a major part of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation area and a part of Dum Dum Municipal area.

Psotmaster General, Kolakta Region, W.B., Subrat Das, the Director, Postal   Services, Kolkata Region, Mang Min Thang and other high level officials were also present on the occasion.
