MCD poll results influenced by UP and Modi's growing stature, Kejriwal says
According to media reports, Kejriwal made this observation at a meeting with all AAP lawmakers he had summoned to discuss the poll results.
At the meeting, Kejriwal reportedly made the lawmakers to take an "oath of purity", urging them to not leave the party.
"They may offer you a lot of money, even upto 10 crores," he said, "but if you take this, you will regret it, pay a heavy price all your life."
At the end of his address he led the audience in an oath : " I pledge never to ditch this pure party or betray the (anti-corruption) movement."
Kejriwal also reportedly said he is ready to meet every lawmaker individually.
The Bharatiya Janata Party swept Delhi’s civic polls on Wednesday, bagging an unprecedented 181 of the 270 municipal wards. With AAP managing to win just 48 seats, and Congress trailing at the third position with 30 seats, the BJP’s victory margin is the highest ever in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls.
The party had also bit dust in the recently held Assembly elections in Punjab and Goa that shattered its dreams for expansion beyond Delhi.
After the elections to the Delhi civic body, in which AAP experienced a crushing defeat to finish a microscopic second to the BJP, the party has been hit by a number of resignations from some of the parties top leadership while a voice of criticism gets louder.
lawmaker Alka Lamba told NDTV, "I take personal responsibility for the party's defeat in all three wards in my constituency and offer to resign from all party posts and as a lawmaker."
Earlier, AAP's Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh had tendered his resignation, so did Delhi-in charge Dilip Pandey.
Five months after joining the AAP, Poonam Jha Azad, wife of suspended BJP MP Kirti Jha Azad, switched over to the Congress on April 11.
AAP MP Bhagwat Man slammed the party leadership, and said, not naming a Chief Ministerial candidate cost the party in Punjab elections.
Contrary to what some top AAP leaders had alleged, Mann said there was no use in finding fault with the electronic voting machines (EVMs).
