Massive fire breaks out at Kolkata guest house amid city's recovery from rainfall aftermath

Kolkata/IBNS: A massive fire broke out at a guest house in Kolkata on Thursday amid the city's slow recovery from the impact of heavy rainfall that claimed at least 11 lives, media reports said.

The fire, which caused panic among people in the area, broke out at Blue Cherry Guest House in south Kolkata's Prince Anwar Shah Road.

The fire was first reported at 1 pm. Three fire tenders were pressed into the spot to douse the fire.

No casualty has been reported.

As per prima facie, the fire broke out due to a short circuit.

A couple of days ago, at least nine people died of electrocution due to city-wide waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall overnight.

Two others have died in the downpour in other districts.

The downpour, waterlogging in streets, lanes and bylanes have dampened the city's festive spirit barely a few days ahead of the kickstarting of Durga Puja festival.
