Mumbai, Aug 9 (IBNS); Mumbai witnessed a massive protest by over 80,000 people, who identified themselves as Maratha, as they hit the traffic and rail system of the city badly on Wednesday.

The protesters are demanding for reserved quotas in government jobs and colleges for students.

Dressed in saffron caps and carrying flags, the protesters moved to Azad Maidan in Mumbai as police worked hard to control the traffic in the city.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met representatives from Maratha Morcha and leaders from all political parties.

He even reportedly said his government shall grant reservation for the Maratha community.

He said the State Backward Commission has been directed to submit a detailed report on the issue.

The protesters called off their demonstration after receiving assurance from Fadnavis.
