Manipur violence: Mallikarjun Kharge steps up attack on PM Modi, demands N Biren's dismissal

New Delhi/IBNS/UNI: Stepping up his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Manipur situation, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Monday said if the PM is really concerned about the northeastern state, then he should sack Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The Congress has been blaming the Biren Singh-led government for the current crisis in Manipur.

"Reports indicate that finally the Home Minister has spoken to PM Modi on Manipur. For the last 55 days, Modi ji did not say a word on Manipur. Every Indian is waiting for him to speak. If Modi ji is really concerned about Manipur, then first thing he should do is to sack his CM,” Kharge wrote in a tweet.

Suggesting various measures to bring normalcy in the violence-hit state, the Congress chief said, "Confiscate weapons stolen from extremist organizations and anti-social elements. Start talks with all the parties and find a common political path. End the blockade with the help of security forces. Ensure the availability of essential commodities by opening and keeping the National Highways safe."

Among others, he said, "A package of relief, rehabilitation and livelihood for the affected people should be prepared without delay. The announced relief package is grossly inadequate."

"No amount of propaganda by the BJP and Modi govt can cover up their abject failures in dealing with Maniur violence,” Kharge said.

On Sunday, the Manipur CM met Union Home Minister Amit Shah here, a day after the latter convened an all-party meeting over the current crisis in the northeastern state.

Shah has assured that the Central government will take all possible steps to bring normalcy in Manipur.
