Manipur blast: Assam Rifles constable die, four wounded

Imphal (Manipur), June 15 (IBNS): One Assam Rifles trooper was martyred and four others were wounded in a powerful explosion triggered by the suspected militants in Manipur’s Ukhrul district along the Myanmar border on Thursday.

According to the reports, suspected militants attacked on a petrol party of the para-military force with a remote control bomb blast when the team returned to their Kasom post near Hundung in the bordering district with Myanmar.

In the militant attack, five Assam Rifles personnel were injured and they were airlifted to the military hospital at Leimakhong near Imphal, where the trooper succumbed to his injuries and he was identified as Havildar Lohit Gogoi.

A top official of Assam Rifles said that, other injured personnel are now out of danger.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the incident and said that the attackers will be hunted and justice to be brought.

It is the fourth militant attack on security forces in the north eastern Indian state since May last.

On June 3, three security personnel including a Junior Commanding Officer (JCO) of Assam Rifles were injured in a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion at the junction of H Mongjang village near Khudengthabi along the National Highway 102 in Imphal-Moreh road.

On May 19, at least four Manipur police commandos and Manipur Rifles jawan were injured in an powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by suspected militants in Manipur’s Chandel district.

The explosion took place between Kwatha and Khudentabi area on Imphal-Moreh road, some 10 kms from the Indo-Myanmar bordering town Moreh, when two vehicles of Manipur police commandos and Manipur Rifles jawan escorted Parliamentary Secretary (Home) of Manipur state government L Susindro Meitei returning from Kwatha.

On May 8, an army jawan was killed and three others including a Junior Commanding Officer ( JCO) were injured in a powerful IED blast at Moreh in Manipur along the Indo-Myanmar border.
