Mamata Banerjee's TMC moves to EC
Kolkata, Apr 30 (UNI) The Trinamool Congress has dashed off a letter to the Election Commission where it has charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with "violating" the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by encouraging “horse trading”.
In the letter, it said, " You are thus requested to ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi for evidence in support of his statement, failing which his nomination should be cancelled for violation of the Model Code of Conduct by making such provocative and undemocratic statements. "
Earlier, slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his claim that 40 Trinamool Congress MLAs were looking to shift to the BJP, Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien in a Tweet said, "Expiry Babu PM, let’s get this straight. Nobody will go with you. Not even one councillor. Are you election campaigning or horse trading!"
The TMC MP said, " The party will file a complaint with the EC. "
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday demanded that the Election Commission take action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his claim that 40 lawmakers of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress were in touch with him.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief alleged that Mr Modi's remarks made during campaigning in West Bengal amounted to horse-trading and demanded the poll body to take action against him.
"Betraying the spirit of democracy, belittling the office of a Prime Minister, and touching the height of absurdity, the PM of India stooped so low and claimed that 40 Trinamool Congress MLAs are in
touch with him," Mr Naidu said in a series of tweets.
Former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav demanded 72 hours banning of PM from campaigning.
In an election rally in Sreerampore on Monday, Modi claimed that 40 TMC MLAs are in touch with him, and ready to desert the party once BJP wins polls.
“Didi, on May 23 when the results will come, lotus will bloom everywhere and your MLAs will leave you. Even today, didi, 40 of your MLAs are in contact with me,” the Prime Minister remarked.
