Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that she has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in April, 2022, to help betterment of the state-centre relations for overall development of industries, which suffered heavily for past two years owing to Covid-19.

"The Prime Minister has accepted the invitation (BGBS)," Banerjee told the reporters in Delhi while addressing them about the outcome of her talks with Modi.

She said in a federal structure country, there should be very cordial relations between the state and centre because development of the states meant a stronger centre.

After a two years suspension due to COVID-19 pandemic, the West Bengal government has decided to host the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) on April 20 and 21, 2022.

The BGBS is a flagship programme where the state government showcases the business readiness and investment potential before the global business community.

"I am not sure if the foreign investors would come but the inauguration of such a summit by the prime minister would give a new dimension in the investment and industrial sectors which would be beneficial for other states," Banerjee opined.

The WB CM said she also raised various issues like pending funds, withdrawal of BSF territorial jurisdiction in West Bengal, Covid vaccination and alleged brutality in Tripura by the ruling opposition.

She said the PM said he would look into the monetary issues of spending over Rs 96000 crore to the state.

Banerjee also demanded withdrawal of BSF jurisdiction upto 50 kms from previous 15 kms and said federal structure strengthened only on cordial relations between the state and the Centre.

She said she asked the PM to withdraw its recent order to extend the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) in West Bengal.

She also accused the BSF of firing in which three people were killed in Cooch Behar.

Besides there many other districts of Bengal also witnessed the BSF firing.
