Mamata Banerjee inaugurates Mati Utsav 2016
Kolkata/Burdwan, Jan 19 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday inaugurated the fourth edition of Mati Utsav at Panagarh in state's Burdwan district.
A permanent venue called Mati Tirtha, has been readied by the State Agriculture Marketing Department to hold the Mati Utsav this year.
"Mati Tirtha symbolises the rural culture. Farmers can now get guidance from here. There is also a small hut here where I will come and stay when I want to stay close to my beloved Mati," Mamata Banerjee said.
Talking about the Mati Utsav, she further said, "We started Mati Utsav is 2012. The United Nations declared 2015 as the International Year of the Soil. Bengal shows the way for the world. It is our land that has made us who we are today. We must celebrate this rich heritage of our land. I love greenery. I love environment. I love nature. We must promote agriculture and animal husbandry."
Banerjee also laid the foundation stone of ‘Lyangcha Tirtha,’ a manufacturing and marketing hub for the famous local sweets of Bardhaman district.
"A hub for the manufacturing and marketing of lyangcha, sitabhog and mihidana, called Lyangcha Tirtha, is also coming up here. These delicacies will be marketed under the Biswa Bangla brand," Banerjee added.
However, the Mati Utsav 2016 will conclude on Jan 25.
