Mamata Banerjee congratulates new CJI Justice Ranjan Gogoi

Kolkata, Oct 3 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday wished Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn-in as the 46th Chief Justice of India (CJI).

Banerjee tweeted: "My humble congratulations and best wishes to the 46th Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Justice Ranjan Gogoi, on assuming office. We are all very proud of you."

The swearing-in ceremony was administered by President Ram Nath Kovind. 

CJI Gogoi succeeded Dipak Misra, who retired on Oct 1.

The term of the new CJI will end in November next year.
  
CJI Gogoi's name was recommended by retired CJI Misra as the former was the second-most senior judge. . CJI Gogoi is the first person from northeastern India to assume the post.
