Malegaon blast accused Pragya Thakur on Rajnath Singh-led Defence Ministry panel

| @indiablooms | Nov 21, 2019, at 12:02 pm

New Delhi/IBNS: Controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bhopal, Pragya Singh Thakur, has been nominated to the 21-member Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Defence Ministry, media reports said.

The 21-member panel is headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Pragya, an accused in the Malegaon blast case, became the Lok Sabha MP in 2019 by defeating Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh.

The Bhopal MP was in the midst of a controversy during the Lok Sabha poll campaign when she had termed Nathuram Godse, who had assassinated Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, as a "patriot".

National Conference leader  Farooq Abdullah and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar are also present in the Defence Ministry panel.

Congress' reaction

Reacting to Pragya's nomination, Congress has put up a tweet which reads, "Pragya Thakur, a terror accused & Godse fanatic has been nominated by the BJP govt. to be a member of the Parliamentary Panel on Defence. This move is an insult to our nation's defence forces, to our nation's esteemed parliamentarians & to every Indian."
