Maharastra Congress leadership issue: Party appoints Balasaheb Thorat as state unit head

Mumbai, July 14 (IBNS): Resolving the leadership issue in Maharashtra, the Congress party has appointed Balasaheb Thorat as the new president of the state unit.

The Congress also named  five working presidents of the party in the state.

Making the appointments, the Congress party tweeted: "Hon'ble Congress President has appointed Sri @bb_thorat as President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. Dr. Nitin Raut Dr. Baswaraj M. Patil Sri. Vishvajeet Kadam Smt. Y.C. Thakur Sri. Muzaffer Hussain has been appointed as Working President ."

Balasaheb said he will work to ensure bringing back the 'glory' of his party in the state.

"I am grateful to Hon. Sonia ji Gandhi, @RahulGandhi ji & all senior leaders for bestowing upon me this important responsibility. All my efforts will be in lines to serve the common man of Maharashtra & bring back glory to congress in Maharashtra.@INCIndia , @INCMaharashtra," he tweeted.

Balasaheb will succeed Ashok Chavan as Maharashtra Congress President.

Ashok resigned as state Congress president after the party performed poorly in the Lok Sabha polsl this year.
