Kolhapur/UNI:  A teacher was arrested by police for his alleged role in aiding and abetting the suicide of a class X girl at Shirti village in Hatkanangale tehsil of the district.

The girl, Sanika Mahadev Mali, a class X student of Shirti high school, was to appear for coming SSC board examination and wanted to be a top ranker in this examination but was uncertain about it.

Therefore, to avoid appearing for SSC examination, she requested her teacher Nilesh Balu Pradhane to provide her a bottle of pesticide, police said.

Accordingly, Nikesh brought her the bottle of pesticide and gave it to Sanika, who mixed it with water and drank it.

After consuming pesticide on February 20, Sanika fell unconscious and was admitted to a private hospital, where she died during medical treatment on February 25.

During the course of the investigations, police detained Nikesh on Thursday as a suspect he confessed to the crime, sources added.
