Maharashtra: Rs 50 lakh cash seized in Thane

| @indiablooms | Oct 18, 2019, at 11:44 pm

Thane, Oct 18 (UNI) The police on Friday seized cash currency of around Rs. 50 lakh from a flat in the city, police said.

According to the police the sitting MLA from Mohol Ramesh Kadam of NCP, who is seeking re-election to the assembly as an independent candidate from Mohol of Solapur, was taken to the J J Hospital for medical check-up from the Thane Central Jail, where he is currently lodged.

The Hospital sent him back, saying that his health was normal, it was learnt.

On his way back to the jail, he wanted to visit one of his persons at a flat in the city and the police obliged him and took him there. The police, who escorted him, also carried out the search of the flat and unearthed the big cash, it was stated.

The question that remains unanswered is as to how the police escort team, without the permission of the court, allowed him to visit the flat. As per police and jail manual, the arrested accused cannot be allowed to be taken anywhere without the permission of the court.

Upon coming to know about the seizure of the cash, the senior police officials of the city and also the Election department personnel rushed to the building.

The probe was ongoing till late night, it was stated.
