Maharashtra: Nagpur to go under Covid-19 lockdown for 7 days as cases jump

Mumbai/IBNS: The Maharashtra government has decided to clamp a week-long lockdown Nagpur from March 15 to March 21 to arrest the rise in coronavirus cases.

During this period essential services like medicine shops, vegetable and milk shops will remain open.

Nagpur has recorded more than 1,800 cases in the last 24 hours.

Media reports said that the lockdown has been clamped in all areas under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that more parts of Maharashtra could be placed under lockdown as the coronavirus infections have multiplied over the last one month.

He hinted that the shutdown is inevitable in many areas of the state and a decision would be taken in the next couple of days.

Thackeray also took the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine today.

Two days ago a ''Janata curfew'' was imposed for three days from 8 am to 8 pm.

Maharashtra health department has come up with seven point measures to control the spread of the virus--testing of close contacts, fast contact-tracing, mass testing in hot-spots and audit of deaths, said an NDTV report.
