Maharashtra: Four sadhus assaulted on suspicion of child lifters

| @indiablooms | Sep 14, 2022, at 04:45 pm

Mumbai/IBNS: In a resemblance with the Palghar lynching, four sadhus were assaulted by a mob on suspicion of child lifters in Maharashtra's Sangli Tuesday, a video recording the incident went viral on social media.

The incident occurred at Lavana village of Sangli.

Reportedly, the sadhus had asked for directions from a boy while they were on their way to the temple town of Pandharpur from Karnataka's Bijapur.

Suspecting them to be child lifters, an angry mob armed with sticks assaulted the sadhus, who had stopped at a temple and then resumed their journey.

Police said they are yet to receive a complaint but they are verifying the viral video.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is a bigger part of the ruling coalition, has condemned the incident and said the government won't tolerate such incidents.

The primary opposition party Shiv Sena has called the incident "unfortunate", NDTV reported.

Three men including two sadhus were lynched on the suspicion of being thieves in Gadchinchale village of Palghar in Mumbai.
