Madhya Pradesh elections: After Mayawati, Akhilesh snubs Congress
Lucknow, Oct 6 (IBNS): Citing lack of communication from the Congress, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has said that his team has severed ties with the grand old party, dealing a blow to the Rahul Gandhi-led side ahead of the upcoming Madhya Pradesh elections.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that he will explore the possibility of a tie-up with the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), as they aim to take on the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"Congress has made us wait for long. We will hold talks with BSP ," Akhilesh was quoted as saying in the media.
Earlier this month, Mayawati said that the BSP will not form an alliance with the Congress during elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
"We will form alliance with regional parties or will fight alone," the veteran politician said.
"People of the nation have not forgiven the Congress for their corruption. The Congress party did not rectify itself also over the months.
"The Congress party is not ready to bring changes in itself," she added.
Contrary to her claim, Rahul Gandhi said that even though the BSP has decided against lending support to the Congress in the regional polls, he is confident that the UP based party will lend its hand during the general polls.
Gandhi also said that the BSP's gesture will not hamper Congress' chances in the poll bound states.
"Alliance in the states and alliance at the Centre are two different things and Mayawati has sort of indicated that," the Congress president said.
"I don't see the BSP not aligning (with Congress) will impact us in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan," he said, adding, "But in the national elections, the parties (BSP, Congress) will come together. That is the indication we have."
