Bhopal, May 2 (IBNS): In yet another incident of sexual assault in Madhya Pradesh, a 12-year old girl was raped and killed at a desolate place in the capital city Bhopal, media reports said.

The victim was going to a temple with her teenage aunt when the accused took her to a desolate place and raped her. The aunt was not present when the girl was raped.

After raping her, the two men smashed her head with stones.

On the following day, the girl's family lodged a complaint with police who have arrested both the men.

The victim's aunt, who has been suspected to be involved in the crime, was also arrested.

Reacting to the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pragya Singh Thakur, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Bhopal, attacked Chief Minister Kamal Nath and assured revenge of the crime.

As per reports, Madhya Pradesh recorded the maximum number of rapes in 2016 and 2017.

The Congress assumed power in the state in late 2018.
