Allahabad, Apr 10 (IBNS): Don-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari on Thursday announced that he will not contest the Lok Sabha polls against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejirwal from the Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, reports said.

Ansari, who is currently lodged in Agra jail on charges of murdering a BJP MLA, conveyed the decision through his brother and national party president Afzal Ansari in Varanasi.

He was to fight the elections on Quami Ekta Dal's ticket.

Afzal Ansari reportedly said that the decision was taken avoid division of votes and to straighten secular forces.

Ansari has contested from Varanasi on a BSP ticket in 2009 elections against BJP's Murli Manohar Joshi.
