Lok Sabha Polls: AICC President Rahul Gandhi was invited to contest from Karnataka

Bengaluru, Mar 15(UNI/IBNS): Former Chief Minister and JD(S)-Congress Coalition government Co-ordination Committee Chairman Siddaramaiah, has extended invitation to AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi to contest from Karnataka in the 2019 General Elections.

In a twitter message, Siddaramaiah, while extending invitation to Rahul Gandhi has also reminded that the people of Karnataka had always supported and encouraged Gandhi family members.

Siddaramaiah's invitation assumes significance since Rahul Gandhi may face uphill task in seeking re-election from his traditional seat in Amethi following BSP President Mayavathi's decision to field BSP candidate in Congress bastion. However no any particular Lok Sabha seat for Rahul to contest had been mentioned by Siddaramaiah.

It may be recalled that Electorates of Chikkamagalur Lok Sabha seat in 1978 had gave a political rebirth to the former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi. In 1999, the then AICC President Sonia Gandhi had won from Ballari Lok Sabha seat defeating BJP leader and present External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, in the general elections.
