Lighting kills several people in UP,Bihar, Modi, Sonia mourn

Patna/New Delhi, June 22 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday mourned the loss of lives in lighting in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

PMO India quoting Modi tweeted: "Deeply anguished by loss of lives due to lightning in parts of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand & other parts of the nation over the last few days."

"My thoughts & prayers are with those who lost their near & dear ones due to the lightning. May the injured recover quickly," he said.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi also mourned the loss of lives in the mishap.

"Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi has expressed distress and grief over reports of numerous deaths due to natural lightening in Bihar," INC tweeted quoting Gandhi.

"Smt Gandhi expressed hope that the Government of Bihar was ensuring adequate safety and relief measures," read another tweet.

At least 56 people were killed as lighting hit Bihar while 42 others lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, reports said.
