LG Kiran Bedi visits Odaperi Tank

| @indiablooms | Mar 03, 2019, at 06:03 pm

Puducherry, Mar 3 (UNI/IBNS) Puducherry Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday visited the Odaperi Tank at Karayampathur and Periya eri in Panayadikuppam near here as part of a review mission of water bodies on water levels post the monsoon to continue with the crusade “Mission Puducherry Water Rich”.

According to a Raj Nivas release, the review visits are in anticipation of water day on March 22 and will continue to be made by the water rich team to review the water levels of tanks fed by 14 rural irrigation channels de-silted by raising community support during the North East Monsoons.

It was observed that the Odeperi tank was not full with water since, the subsidiary channels were not de-silted preventing the flow of enough water into the tank, while the Periya eri was full.

Given the fact that successive monsoon have not brought enough rain it has become imperative to save every drop of water and the PWD was asked to prepare a status report on the Major, secondary and territory feeder channels.

The status report will give a complete picture of the channels, their length, the extent of de-silting done, choked points, encroachments if any, etc for timely action.
