Left takes out protest march against vandalisation of Vidyasagar's statue, blames Trinamool-BJP

Kolkata, May 15 (IBNS): To mark protest against the vandalisation of Bengali's iconic social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's bust, the Left party on Wednesday morning took out a protest march in north Kolkata and blamed both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the incident.

Interacting with media, CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury said: "We condemn it. The probe must take place. Both the Trinamool Congress and BJP are polarising the state. People should be careful of such religious polarisation."

The Trinamool accused the BJP workers of vandalising Vidyasagar's bust which was kept in a glass showcase in the premises of Vidyasagar College.

Prior to the vandalisation, a scuffle between the BJP and Trinamool supporters broke out outside Calcutta University in north Kolkata through which Shah's roadshow was passing.

While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool supremo, Mamata Banerjee, sharply attacked the saffron party, BJP national president Amit Shah on Wednesday said the ruling party hatched a conspiracy to win the Lok Sabha polls.

Shah at a press conference said: "We were outside the Vidyasagar college and the gate of the college was intact. Then who vandalised the bust? It was a conspiracy by Trinamool and vandalised the bust. Who broke the locks of the college? How could BJP workers get the keys of the college room. All these prove that Trinamool goons vandalised the bust to win the lost battle."
