The CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, based in Bonera, is spearheading the promotion and expansion of lavender cultivation in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

Their dedicated efforts have transformed the agricultural landscape of the picturesque southern district, empowering local labourers and revolutionizing traditional farming practices, reported ANI.

Collaborating closely with farmers in the region, the institute has harnessed the potential of lavender farming through extensive research and development.

The introduction of lavender cultivation has not only created new opportunities for Pulwama but also contributed to the socio-economic development of the local community.

Under the guidance of the CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, local labourers have experienced a remarkable improvement in their livelihoods. Previously relying on conventional farming methods with limited returns, they now have access to a high-value crop in lavender, which fetches better market prices.

Through careful selection and breeding, the institute has developed robust and disease-resistant lavender plant varieties suitable for the climatic conditions of Jammu and Kashmir.

Additionally, advanced agricultural techniques and best practices have been imparted to the labourers, maximizing their yield and optimizing the quality of lavender oil and other lavender-based products.

The director of the CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine expressed their vision, stating, "Our aim is to create a lavender revolution in Jammu and Kashmir, transforming the lives of farmers and boosting the economy. Lavender farming has tremendous potential, and we are committed to supporting the local community in capitalizing on this opportunity."

The success of lavender cultivation in Pulwama has not gone unnoticed. Farmers and agricultural enthusiasts from other regions in Jammu and Kashmir are now eager to adopt lavender farming, recognizing its profitability and ecological benefits.
