New Delhi: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Salman Rehman Khan, implicated in the Bengaluru prisons terror conspiracy case and listed under an Interpol Red Notice, has been extradited from Rwanda.

Salman, accused of aiding terror activities and supplying explosives, was arrested in Kigali on Wednesday with assistance from the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), Interpol, and National Central Bureaus (NCBs).

The Bengaluru Prisons Terror Conspiracy case, taken over by the NIA in October last year, exposed Salman’s role in a terror module led by convicted terrorist T Naseer, who had radicalised him during their time in Bengaluru Central Prison.

Salman had been serving a sentence for a POCSO conviction between 2018 and 2022. Investigations revealed Salman’s involvement in procuring arms, explosives, and plotting escape plans for Naseer.

Following the conspiracy's discovery, Salman fled India, evading Indian authorities until his arrest in Rwanda.

A Red Notice issued by Interpol on August 2 allowed his capture and eventual extradition.

This is NIA's 17th extradition or deportation of a terror-linked fugitive since 2020.

In 2024 alone, 26 fugitives have been returned to India, including those accused of terror and crimes against minors, such as Raihan Arabikkalalarikkal, extradited from Saudi Arabia.
