Kolkata: Union Minister Babul Supriyo inspects the country’s first ever under- river tunnel of East-West Metro

Kolkata, Mar 12 (IBNS): Babul Supriyo, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, visited the country’s first ever under- river(Hooghly) tunnel of East-West Metro in Kolkata on Monday and took hands-on position of the ongoing project.  

He entered the tunnel accompanied by Parashuram Singh, Principal Chief Engineer, Metro Railway and Managing Director, KMRCL from the Howrah Maidan end and stood under the river appreciating the dry condition of the tunnel which is 36 metres below the ground level.

He also appreciated the quality of work being done and the safety precautions being taken by the team to ensure the safety of the structures including the protected monuments and the heritage buildings.

He also praised the safety measures taken when the tunnel boring machines worked under the Synagogue, St. Andrews Church, Writers’ Buildings, Brabourne Road flyover and the centenary old dilapidated buildings without any damage to the structures.
