Kolkata, Jan 19 (IBNS): An eleventh standard student committed suicide on Thursday at his residence at Paschim Putiary's Banerjee Para area under Haridevpur Police Station in southern Kolkata as his parents scolded him for poor results, reports said.

According to reports, the 17-year-old student, Samprit Banerjee, wrote 'Gd byeee..' (Good Bye) on his Facebook wall at 11:01 pm. on Wednesday and his body was found hanging inside his room on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, denying the allegation of rebuking Samprit Banerjee for his poor result, his parents claimed that a teacher of their son's school used to chide Samprit during classes, which might have led to the suicide.

However, after sending the 17-year-old's body for post-mortem, police have initiated a probe into the matter.
