Kolkata STF nabs ABT terror suspect from India-Nepal border

Kolkata, Nov 29 (IBNS): The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police on Tuesday arrested a Bangladesh national with suspected links to Al-Qaeda's front group in the Indian Subcontinent, Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) or Ansar Bangla, from India-Nepal border area, officials said.

According to officials, arrested Bangladeshi suspect Umar Faruque alias Md. Aftab Khan alias Mahi, who was earlier mentioned in STF's wanted list, is an active member of ABT's operations wing.

A senior official of city police's STF told IBNS that Umar Faruque is likely to be brought to Kolkata and produced in Bankshall Court on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, two other Bangladeshi suspects- Shopon Biswas alias Sajol Ahmed alias Moon alias Tamim and Nayan Gazi alias Zafor alias Safik alias Saiful alias Ariful Gazi, who were also named along with Faruque in the wanted list, are still on loose.

The STF has already announced reward for information about these two wanted Bangladeshi suspects.

The STF earlier arrested three Bangladesh nationals with suspected links to Bangladesh-based Islamic extremist group ABT, Samsad Mian, Riajul Islam and Md. Sahadat Hossain, and a Bengal-based illegal firearms dealer, Monotosh Dey, from Kolkata.

They all are in STF custody for further investigation till Dec 5.
