Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI/IBNS) A Kashmiri shawl trader was beaten up and robbed of Rs 1,95,000 by an unidentified miscreant at Park Circus station of Sealdah division's south section, the GRP investigating the crime said on Saturday.

The incident happened around 1830 hours on Friday while he was crossing the Park Circus station.

The trader alleged that a youth called him and asked him his identity while he was crossing the station to hand over the payment to his mahajan (lender). As he divulged his identity, suddenly the miscreant hit him on his head from back and then attacked with a knife, inflicting injuries in his stomach and hands.

Before he came to his senses, the assailant had escaped with his bag containing Rs 1.95 lakh, the victim stated.

Before he called his friends, who arrived an hour later, a man helped him with water and first aid for the knife injuries.

An FIR was lodged with the Ballygunge Railway station and the GRP launched investigation into the case.

No one so far arrested in this connection.

The trader from Jammu and Kashmir has been selling Kashmiri shawls for the past eight years in this region.
