Kolkata, Oct 18 (IBNS): With 11 people being injured in near stampede-like-situation, Kolkata Police Commissioner Surajit Kar Purakayastha on Sunday announced to indefinitely close access to visit Deshapriya Park pandal in south Kolkata for worshippers.

"Me and other officers rushed to the spot and we all controlled the situation very fast. There has been no casualty so far. Viewers' safety and security are the most important things to us. Only for Deshapriya Park's Durga Puja, whole south Kolkata was effected. They did not follow the terms and conditions properly. We have decided to close the access into Deshapriya Park indefinitely," Surajit Kar Purakayastha said in a press conference here.

"I will request all worshippers to avoid Deshapriya Park and visit other pandals," he added.

Kolkata CP said that legal action will be taken against the organizers of Deshapriya Park if they did not follow rules.

On Sunday evening, Deshapriya Park pandal was overcrowded as a huge number of worshippers came to witness world's tallest  Durga idol. It is 88.5 feet tall.

A stampede-like-situation was almost created and 11 people, including two children, were injured during a tussle among worshipers .

Police immediately closed access to the pandal for viewers.

Traffic in south Kolkata was completely disrupted.
