Kolkata: Passengers injured in escalator accident at Girish Park metro station

Kolkata, Dec 17 (IBNS): At least eight passengers were injured in an escalator accident at Girish Park metro station in Kolkata on Thursday late evening, reports said.
According to reports, around 8:30 pm., an up-bound escalator at Girish Park metro station suddenly started malfunctioning, when 15-20 passengers were on it, and it began moving in reverse direction.
 
Passengers fell on the ground and at least eight of them were injured in the accident.
 
Railway Protection Force (RPF) staffers, metro rail officers and police from nearby Girish Park Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers.
 
Three passengers have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
 
The metro rail authority has started investigation into the matter while the service was not disrupted due to the accident.
