Kolkata/New Delhi, Mar 31 (IBNS): With the Kolkata flyover mishap arresting global attention, social networking site Facebook on Thursday activated its safety check feature for people in Kolkata.
The feature is allowing Facebook users in Kolkata to mark themselves safe after the destructive flyover collapse in Kolkata.

At least 21 people have been killed as an under construction fly over collapsed in Kolkata's Girish Park area on Thursday, officials said.

Several people are still feared to be trapped under the debris of the bridge.

Rescue operation is currently going on in the area.

The mishap occurred at around 12.30 pm.

A close circuit camera footage  showed people, cars, buses, auto rickshaws and hawkers being crushed when the flyover collapsed on them.

Locals rushed to help and rescue people who were trapped under the debris.

The place where the mishap occurred is considered to be one of the most congested areas in the city.
