Kolkata flyover collapse : Rahul Gandhi visits site, says no politics involved

Kolkata, Apr 2 (IBNS) Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday visited the site of the bridge collapse in north Kolkata and met the victims of the tragedy.

Mr.Gandhi said there was no politics involved  in his visit . .

"Have come here to meet the injured. Do  not want to give a political statement," he said  after meeting victims of the disaster that claimed 24 lives and left many  injured. .

 "I have came here to support the people, I wanted to come here and give my support to the people. That is what I did, give support to the people, whatever little support I can...We should reach out to the people, it is a tragedy," the Gandhi scion said asserting that he won't make any political statement.

His visit took place amid a political blamegame in the poll-bound West Bengal with the opposition parties training gun at the Trinamool Congress Government and the ruling party putting the blame on the previous Left Front Government. 

Accompanied by senior state Congress leaders, Gandhi interacted with rescue workers at the accident site.

He also visited the hospitals where the injured people are undergoing treatment. More than 100 people were injured in the disaster and 70 of them were still in hospitals.

Gandhi reached the city on Saturday morning.
