Kolkata/UNI: A fire broke out at the dressing room of Eden Gardens, damaging false ceilings and some furniture on Wednesday night, official sources said on Thursday.

Fire Brigade sources said parts of the false ceilings and some furniture in the team dressing room at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) was damaged in the fire, which sparked from a suspected short-circuit in the wiring around 11:40 pm on Wednesday.

The fire was brought under control within half an hour after deploying three firefighting vehicles.

Renovation works are underway at the Eden Gardens, which will host five matches of the ICC Men's World Cup, beginning from October 5.

Late last week, a group of ICC team members came and inspected the preparations for this iconic stadium, and they expressed satisfaction.

Those who were working in the dressing room were the first to notice the fire.

The fire department was immediately informed, after which they brought the situation under control.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
