Kolkata/IBNS: A 20-year-old college girl was shot dead allegedly by her ex-boyfriend on Saturday early morning at Purba Putiyari's Ananda Pally (West) area under Regent Park Police Station limits in south suburban Kolkata, reports said.

According to reports, family members of the deceased Priyanka Purkait claimed that she was shot by her ex-boyfriend Jayanta Halder at her Regent Park residence.

Priyanka, who was a final year undergraduate student of south Kolkata's Women's Christian College, was rushed to Baghajatin State General Hospital where she was declared dead.

Jayanta, who is also a resident of the same area, reportedly fled the scene after committing the crime.

Senior city police officials said that local police have initiated an investigation into the incident while search operations were on to nab the absconding accused.
